I retired from the University of Portsmouth on October 22nd 2010 and many people have asked me what I will do after retirement and whether I will be bored, so I though I might answer those questions here.

One pastime I will be involved with during retirement is maintaining this website (I hope to be able to both update the site, but also greatly expand the site, providing a useful resource for those interested in Type I Restriction-Modification systems). The Rose Bowl (200) - Eng vs Aus  However, this work will start in Autumn (after the end of the cricket season).

Those who know me well will be aware that I have always had a strong interest in cricket and played both 20-over and 40-over cricket for the "Genetics Department" at University of Newcastle between 1985 and 1987 and 20-over cricket for the Biology team at University of Portsmouth from 1988 to 2000.  Following retirement I plan to spend a significant amount of time watching first class cricket at the Rose Bowl and for those interested I will make the cricket scores (that I record) available here.

There is also a direct link to the list of scored games at:

Another pastime, linked to my previous employment, is writing science and one project in this area is already underway - a book titled "Molecular Motors for Bionanotechnology" - written with my last postdoctoral worker Dr James Youell.
